JING YING INSTITUTE OF KUNG FU & TAI CHI SILENT AUCTION RAISES AWARENESS, FUNDS FOR SPAN, INC. (SERVING PEOPLE ACROSS NEIGHBORHOODS)
Saturday, December 20, 2014, 3-4:30pm

JING YING INSTITUTE OF KUNG FU & TAI CHI SILENT AUCTION RAISES AWARENESS, FUNDS FOR SPAN, INC. (SERVING PEOPLE ACROSS NEIGHBORHOODS)

ARNOLD, MD - Jing Ying Institute of Kung Fu & Tai Chi (www.JingYing.org), based in Arnold, will be holding their 11th annual Holiday Party and Silent Auction on Saturday, December 20, 2014, 3-4:30pm (auction closes at 4pm). The fundraiser supports SPAN, Inc. SPAN (Serving People Across Neighborhoods) provides financial assistance, food and referral services to those in crisis in central Anne Arundel County.
Jing Ying's silent auction is special since it runs from the end of October until their holiday party in December. The donated items are displayed for nearly two months, allowing plenty of time for viewing. This allows optimal bidding opportunities, and local businesses who donate their items get lots of exposure. Donors are also listed on Jing Ying’s web site and social media.

Local businesses, members of the community, and students donate items to the event. Many of the items are unique and hand-crafted, ranging from origami roses to Ukrainian egg ornaments. Gift certificates for a variety of services include beginner ski lessons, sports memorabilia, tai chi, massage, yoga, acupuncture, chiropractic treatments, tutoring services and more. To this year’s auction, a tai chi student has donated a 19th century robe and two banners from China that were passed down through her family. Arnold artist, Suzanne Marshall (owner of Whales Works Design and Illustration), has created a watercolor design just for the auction that features a classic auspicious fish and lotus design. A list of donations will be available at www.JingYing.org

The auction closes on Saturday, December 20 during the school’s annual Holiday Party, which will be held from 3:00 to 4:30 pm. The auction closes at 4:00pm. There will be food, facepainting, and music. There are also fun prizes and giveaways. The event is a free and open to the public.

Jing Ying is still accepting donations of all sizes from now until December 12. The majority of SPAN funds provide financial assistance in three areas: court-ordered evictions, utility turn-off notices and emergency medical or prescription needs.
“Through the generosity of our business, community, and student donors – as well as the people who bid on the donations – we are thrilled to have donated over $40,000 to charity from our silent auctions,” stated Nancy Greer, the auction organizer. “With everyone’s help, we can make a real difference for our neighbors who need emergency assistance.”

For more information about Jing Ying’s auction, visit www.JingYing.org or call 410-431-5200. For more information about SPAN, go to www.SPANHelps.org
