840 Oella Ave
Ellicott City, MD 21043

The museum opened its' doors in 1997. It houses the personal collection of James Coldren.
It has the largest collection of music for the Great Highland Bagpipe in the world and is the only
museum of its type in the Western Hemisphere. The museum also has a huge collection of
bagpipe CDs (over 1000 at last count and growing), cassette tapes, records and videos. Display
cases show some of the over 100 sets of pipes that are currently in the collection. Most people
associate the bagpipe strictly with the Scots and Irish and are amazed to see pipes from Croatia,
Tunisia, Romania, Kazakhstan, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Hungary, Sweden, France,
Spain, Italy and England, in addition to the pipes from Scotland and Ireland. Bagpipe lessons are
available through the many talented volunteers at the museum and, these volunteers are
usually available for hire for special occasions such as weddings, birthday parties, retirements,
divorces etc.
Having trouble contacting the museum? Try calling Dave at 410.859.0222 or Jason at 410.871.2360.
Sunday is always open house at the museum and the best time to hear the pipes live!
